If you are saving eggs for hatching in an incubator, how old can they be before they are set and should they be refrigerated during the waiting period?

The older they are, the less hatch rate. If you figure a hen "collects" them before setting on a clutch of 7-12, I'd say 7-12 days is the oldest I'd try.

No refridgeration.

Roll the eggs a half turn once a day (more if you can) while waiting to collect enough to set.

We have put ads in all the free buy and sell online sites and papers asking for someone to incubate eggs in exchange for half the chicks hatched. WE have had three responses in the past couple of days.

We are getting baby chicks! We are getting baby chicks! Two people with incubators are coming to pick up eggs tomorrow morning. One is getting 12 and the other is getting 20.

I'm going to redesign the inside of our chicken house. It will have a fenced off nursery section.
