How awful! Hopefully the neighbor realizes that he is now liable for poisoning the animals, both morally and financially.

I don't know of any natural remedies, frankly I'd call a vet ASAP and ask them. Sometimes activated charcoal can soak up some of the substance and bind it until it passes, but I don't know if that would apply here or if that is even safe for cows.

Lots of consequences of poisoning--damage to heart muscle, liver or kidneys--is pretty final and irreversible, but depending on how much the animal ate, sometimes they make it through the experience. It still means that they have a comprimised system, but I don't know if you could do anything about that.

Activated Charcoal is the standard. It can be bought in tubes for livestock or you can get it at a fish store. It must be activated. Give orally. Not sure how much for a cow, but probably quite a bit.

Also if the owner has Antitoxin on hand (probably does it's used in de-horning & other administers of animals-or goat people would have it for when they disbud). I'd give 1/2 cc to a 20# goat, multiply it out a cow's weight.

Supportive therapy would be Thiamine- probably none on hand as it's a vet script; you can substitute B-Complex at high doses, probably 20+ CC's for a cow. B-Vitamins are all water soluable so there is no chance of overdose. It will help with the immune system & recovery.

A vet familiar with cows is an excellent idea.

Email and conversation from ag agent that state Univ says there is no antidote for Japanese Yew poisoning. He said to pass the info about to bag and trash such clippings.
