Possible goose poisoning due to algae spray

We live on a large retention pond which attracts Canadian geese and mallards. There were three families of geese that stayed close together all the time. Today our lake was sprayed for algae. Within an hour we noticed an adult goose was swimming totally underwater except for part of it's neck and head. It soon went under and never resurfaced. We thought a turtle got it. Shortly thereafter we noticed that all three goose families were missing members. Two parents lost two babies. Three other babies lost one parent. The tiniest goose lost it's sibling and both parents. We walked all around the lake, but no bodies have surfaced yet. I called the DNR, but they were not concerned. Could the spray have killed the geese, or is this just a coincidence? As protective as they are, it seems doubtful that a predator got them. I doubt many of our neighbors will care since the geese are a nuisance.
