Water chickens with a garden hose?

So we live in relative suburbs, and are new to this chicken thing, and are learning as we go. We have ten girls growing up and itching to get outside to their coop and run, which I'm working on finishing up. Enough context; my question is this: I've heard all the warnings about how you should never drink out of a garden hose because of certain kinds of fungus that can be various degrees of dangerous to one's health. Does this warning apply to chickens and other animals as well, or is the danger specific to humans? I'm just hoping I'm not going to be lugging jugs of water outside every day just to give them drinking water.

For what it's worth, I am considering something more involved perhaps involving rainwater collection and such, but that'd be down the road. For now they just need to get out. :P
