I ran into a farmer once that said he didnt fertilize his corn, he planted things in the off season that turned into fertilizer hence no more required---Can someone tell me about this process, I would appreciate it Sean

RE: Corn planting

Green manure maybe??

I grow 2 crops of buckwheat to till under then grow rye or wheat overvthe winter to turn in in spring before growing a cash crop. Clovers and other cover crops are also useful. I rarely use chemical ferts any more. I may not get quite the yield but I believe it is cheaper and better in the long run, for everything involved.
