Who took our chickens?

We have a bit of a mystery on our hands.

Yesterday evening we lost two chickens. They were still in the coop at 2 p.m., and, when I went to check up on them at 11 p.m., they were gone. Chickens lived in a small fenced coop made of chicken wire, about 5 feet tall, without a roof (I was planning to build the roof, and now it's too late).

Next morning we found a big pile of feathers, clearly from one of the chickens, near the outer fence that runs along the perimeter of the yard. This is a really puzzling part. It is a 6' tall chain link fence, clearly too dense to let anything bigger than a rat (or maybe a small rabbit) through, and we have bougainvillea growing all over the fence. As far as I can tell, there are no holes or gaps in the fence nearby. There was no blood and no body parts - just the feathers. The intruder must have gotten to that spot and then it almost looks like 'it' magically disappeared into the thin air with our chickens.

So, what do you think? Raccoon? Coyote? Something else?
