Worms, you can buy a small container for 3 bucks at Walmart. Dandelions, Lettuce, Cherries, Tomatoes leaves.... There lots!

If you want them to be less scared of you try picking them up and sitting them on your lap for five minutes a day. They will struggle at first and then they will just give up and let you pet them. Ours were raised by hand so we didnt have that problem but we did rescue a duck and she was terrified of us at first and now she is one of the first ones to run to us. She has been with us for a year and we did it by picking her up a lot and hand feeding her lettuce even though it took her along time to eat it from our hands.

personally I like mine to keep their distance, Otherwise they are on my patio pooping and looking in my glass doors! We feed ours in the eve so they know it is comong and they run when I come out. Now I cannot go out with any container in my hand without them thinking it is feeding time!

and yes they see me with a can of soda.
