Cover Crops

Hello To All,

I am living on a farm. I have 1000 sq.ft. that is over grown with various plants and weeds. It gets bushhogged twice a year. I want to plant in it and do it gradually. Is there a grain or some kind of grass to grow in order to halt the unwanted weeds from growing? Something that is long term?

Your respone would be greatly appreciated.

There a various winter grasses that would help. Rye, oats, or wheat are some. The will die when the weather gets warm again. At that time plat anothe think growing grass. This will be an aid not a cure. You will still have to pull some of the weeds that make it through. Or maybe a short lasting herbicide like 2-4-D.
