 o
bulgur wheat for sheep and calves

There is a guy advertising 1600 lb sacks of bulgur wheat for animal feed in my area. My sheep are currently dirt lotted on alfalfa so I can get my winter clover and rye planted. We are about to get in a big load of bermuda grass hay for the winter, and the sheep will be transitioning to grass hay as well. When on grass hay, I grain the sheep. Was wondering if bulgur wheat was okay for sheep as a supplement to the grass hay.

Also will be buying some calves soon for working the dogs and horses. Would bulgur wheat be okay for them too? (Bulgur wheat has been parboiled and de branned).
Cheers
M

Should be fine for them. Just start them slow --maybe 1/4 lb. per head per day since it is almost a completely digestible energy feed and you don't want to overdo it, then give them time to adjust between each increase in the feeding rate.
