spray paint chairs

Hello to everyone! I haven't posted often on gardenweb, but that should change now that I've found this forum! So glad frugal gardening forum exists, it's close to my heart!
Anyway, back in November, I spotted 2 cute 'retro' looking aluminum chairs by the neighbors curb! I had to grab them, they're rusty and all but in good shape. When it gets a bit warmer I'll 'brillo' them.
I'm new to all of this, so, a Question for my fellow frugal gardeners.... I want to spray paint the chairs after ridding of rust-then add some cute cushions (should make for a nice sitting area in our backyard). Will spray paint be ok for these chairs? Is there a 'special' type of spray paint that I should use on these?
Thanks for any advice!

** On a side note, the next week ANOTHER neighbor had a big, heavy, beautiful wooden chair curbside (good cond.) looks adirondack-ey, but was obv. an inside chair. I'm hoping to use it outside. (I'll prob have to treat it) Isn't that great?! I was so excited to get my hands on it! I love recycling something and using creativity to reuse it in a new way!

RE: spray paint chairs

I'd use a rust preventive on the metal chairs to keep the rust from coming back thru too soon. SOME paints have them already in them others don't. Read your labels and use something specifically for metal.
As far as cushions they do make fabric that is good for outdoor use. The selection isn't huge but it's probably better than using something that will hold moisture or mold on you.
For best results on your metal chairs you might want to see if anyone you know has a sandblaster. I highly recommend the method for metal that has rust on it, especially if it's thick.
