all bulbs are penny a bag at Homedepot

It may be a little late but FYI anyway..
If a Homedepot near you has bulbs left, they are 1 cent per bag for all bulbs. I missed it by a day :-( It would have been fun to fill my garden with hundreds of Crocus, Tulips, daffodils...a lost opportunity. The worst part is that I had visited a HD store just a day before this super sale and they had hundreds of bags of bulbs. |

| Can't get them here: The HD near me says that they'll throw things away before selling them that cheap (costs them more to run the items through the cash registers, etc). |

| I've been wanting to get some different colors of Christmas Cactus for the longest, so felt that the best way to add to my slowly growing collection on a budget is by waiting for the after holiday clearances. Last year I was lucky to have found some decent looking ones on clearance at Lowes for $1 each that I nursed back to health and which have been blooming profusely and continually since early September. I checked back at Lowes this year, but they were all wiped out. I checked out one of the many Home Depot's in my area and there were none in sight. However, I happened upon a rack of poinsettias on clearance for only one penny each. I grabbed the best two of the bunch and will attempt to rebloom them in time for next holiday season (if that's possible, as I've heard it can be done). Anyway, I checked out another Home Depot the following day to see what kind of bargains I may be able to pick up there, as I was still on the prowl for Christmas Cactus plants. I saw 4 of 'em at this Home Depot location and I asked the sales clerk if they were on clearance since there were so little of them remaining and all looked to have been on the decline with limp, wilting leaves. The clerk gave me the most snotty, snooty attitude and said "Oh, we don't mark anything on clearance here."...and then he walked away. I think in the future, Lowe's it will be......at least for me! |

| HD here also throws them away. They were dumping tons of leftovers that I could have easily revived but they would not give them to me. |

I order all the plants at my HD, and it made me sick that instead of being able to sell the Spring bulbs at a penny, this year the BULB COMPANY decided that it wants us to give them a count, then throw them away!!! Almost all the time, it's the vendors, NOT Home Depot items gets thrown away! As for the HD associate with the 'snooty' attitude, I don't condone it, but how would you like to get asked and or berated for those bulbs??? |

I have a beginer's question: if I would happen to buy bulbs at this time of year, what should I do with them? Can they be planted in outdoor containers, would they bloom this season? Should they be stored - and how? Thanks - Jess |
