Is any tree ok for bark mulch?

We lost a hackberry tree to hurricane Rita, and rather than burn it I was wondering if I can rent a chipper and turn it into bark mulch for my many oleanders and roses? We also have many many sticks and twigs about the property from Pecan and Oak trees that I would prefer to use as mulch instead of burning. Thoughts?

I'd stay away from black walnut. When I go to the saw mill for sawdust for stall bedding for the horses, I make sure there's no black walnut in it. It's toxic for the horses through absorbtion through their hooves.

I've also read it's difficult to garden under black walnut as it's toxic to plants as well.
