Coleus are famous for overwintering in water in jam glasses on window sills!

This is one of my fav. things to do. Tradescantias, Plectranthus, Perilla, Fuchsia, Impatiens come to mind. The first step is knowing which are really perennials vs. true annuals. Tropical perennials are the most likely to succeed (vs. those that you're just a zone or two too cold for) since they don't require dormancy.

When they sell pots of 'spikes' to add to pots (if they still do?,) those are baby Cordyline/Dracaena trees.

Are you interested/able to store dormant bulb plants, in a garage or basement?

I overwintered petunias once. So glad to see the plants growing and blooming early that next year.

I also do some succulents, since these are the type that would die back with cold weather (never mind actual snow or frost).

ive got a storage building that's unheated with no windows I could store dormant bulbs in. I really like mandevillas and I did try to keep one over the winter one autumn. it didn't make it but that was in a house that had a wood stove. it went from extremes of very coooollldd when no one was home to sweating hot. I couldn't overwinter anything there. now im in a mobile home.
