 o
sphagnum moss

Bought a bunch of orchids, all planted in moss. I've been removing the moss, and have two aluminum turkey-size roasting pans full. I'm drying it. Now, how can I reuse this moss? Hate to toss it in the compost pile. There must be another way to use it.

Use it in hanging baskets, add around your houseplants to make them look nice, or add to soil as an improvement as it decomposes.

RE: sphagnum moss

I have used spagnum moss to sprout seeds, especially very fine seed. I put damp moss in a small baggy, sprinkle in the seed, keep it in a warm place and watch for results. Once they sprout I open the baggy a bit, gradually introduce fresh air and add a little dilute fertilizer. I pot them up once they have true leaves.
