Ya'll would be proud of me! Today on the way home from the store I saw where someone had thrown bushes out on the road side. And I stopped and got as many as I could get in the back of my truck. Seven large box woods I don't know what to do with them but they were FREE!!!

LOL! You sound like me. I dragged home a half dead gardenia once. It didn't live, but I tried really hard to make it.

I brought home 2 3ft tall Norfolk pines a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful plants left out in the 40degree weather. They're doin great! I was sooooo happy!

First time for my DH today; first time for me that wasn't ordained by my mother. A section of trellis is missing from our back deck and we drove past... slowed... looked... turned around and took... a section of trellis exactly the right style and close to the right size (turned out to be only 4" or so away from perfect) to fill our hole! Yay!

Hi all. I just love finding good stuff that other people do not know how to use or to grow. I must have a dozen rhododendrons that people threw out eithor because they were too big or were too root bound to thrive. Rhodos can be severely pruned back, even after they have been ripped out. And others that were in the nursery liner too long can be saved if their roots are untangled and spread out. Not every effort has been successful but most have. My place looks much the better for it and i've had the added joy of feeling that I saved a beautiful plant. I can hardly wait for people around here to start their spring garden clean up. Wonder what I'll find next? Happy scavenging. Jerry

:) most of my hostas, all my turk's cap lillies, and the two stunning oak-leaf hydrangeas were all found dumped on the curb... the hostas were funny, I bike commute in nice weather, and had been watching the grandkids tearing apart the one house prepping it for the market... well, not only did I score about 20 jars of brads carpet tacks, upholstry tacks ((and a pair of canvas pliers !!!) but one day there was the entire foundation plantings- in a muddy pile on the curb. I stuffed the milkcrate on my bike, pedal'd home, dropped them off, picked up the car, drove back, picked up the rest of them, and got everything planted that very day :) they make a very nice accent to my garden!

I was on my way home the other day. I was hoping to see that someone had thrown plants out while cleaning their yard. I didn't get any plants. However, to my surprise I saw a garden supply composter in very good shape with a FREE sign taped to it. Of course, I nabbed that pretty fast. It is very similar to the one they now sell for 79.95 but without the hinged lid. That was encouragement enough to keep looking.....
