Found two 50 lb drums of bicarb in the power room needed to discard so I put it on the lawn where needed it seems to be working well on ph as the moss is turning brown,Any thoughts on why not?

You ask after you dumped 100 lbs on your lawn? Over how big of an area? That seems like a lot of salt.

Not so much the salt, but the 8.3 pH of the stuff is what concerns me... :-]

No salt as such in bicarb, but it's a lot of sodium. I'd water it like heck and maybe get the levels down.
