I went to a day camp about plants and one of the classes was about making your own pots using materials you wouldn't think of using. Toilet paper or paper towel rolls. You cut one end four times and bend them up, folding them like you would a cardboard box. Use a soda can and a strip of 4 newpapers (about 6 inches of paper). Put the paper about 1/2 way up the can and roll it. Mash the bottom down and tape it. You can start seeds in the cardboard pots and cuttings in the newspaper pots. She also had us put soil in disposable gloves and put cuttings in them. These stayed too moist for me. And they ripped apart too easily. Things I never would have thought of using.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to start some seeds. Wish this group was more active.

I wish it was more active too! I just stumbled on it one day when I was looking at the list of forums. BTW, the containers can be planted without tearing them off. I would suggest cutting the bottom off of the cardboard ones though to make it easier for the roots to spread.
