Hello everyone,
I am looking for a recipe for propagation gel preferably a home made one…? Does anyone have or know of a source for such a gel. I have seen the ones for sale on the web, however, I am not ready to shell out the $$ for such stuff without trying it first. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Sincerely,
Barbra

If you can find out what the key ingredient is, you may be able to find it under some cheaper name.

Thanks for the advice rosey8255. However, I have some future cuttings that I do not want to risk to rot. Some streptocarpus and some Chirta cuttings. I don't have very many and I am hopeing to put some down for future trades. I would really like to get a hold of a recipe for the gel and see what I can come up with. Barb

Barb, strep and chirita cuttings are rooted like African Violets, except you put the strep cuttings on their sides. I use a plastic bag with half and half peat and perlite. Email me at bruggirl100@gmail.com and I'll give you detailed instructions.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for but I found a recipe on a site (don't remember where) for a propogation gel: 1 Tablespoon of cornstarch 1 cup of cool water mix together and heat to boil. cool completely. Pour mix into plastic baggie. Gently ease your seeds into the gel and close bag with a tie. Snip the corner off the bag and squeeze seeds out like a toothpaste tube hope this helps.

Got willow? Take small pieces of willow bark; mash or grind them and let soak in water a few days, then dip your cuttings in this. If no willow, dissolve aspirin tablets in water.
