I'd like to find out what you all use for starting seeds and cuttings and also as a potting mix. Do you mix up your own special blend?

<laughs>
I know it's a little eccentric, but...

I mix homemade compost 50/50 with coco-coir and throw in a little garden gypsum and (well rinsed) perlite and steam pasteurize it myself in a homemade pasteurizer made from a wallpaper-steamer piped into a large cooler.

I pretty much stole the idea from mushroom farmers who pasteurize to avoid contaminates infecting their crops. And in compost, nearly all the beneficial microbes are thermophillic and can survive the pasteurization process where as most contaminates do not.

<shrug>

I'm a dork, I know. ;-p
