Keeping Cantelope off the ground

I have access to large pieces of screen or scrim.
The same kind that is used in screen doors. Could I
put this down and let the fruit grow on top.

| Why couldn't you do that, with the screen? I used to sit mine on old styro meat trays to keep the bugs from munching on them. |
