I need inexpensive ideas for my garden. I really dont know where to start. I know I would like to get some hardy lavender, but after that I dont know. Where can I get some lavender this time of year? online is ok
Or would it just be easier (and cheaper) to wait until next spring. Id really like to put some plants in this fall? |

| Check to see if anyone in your area has some they will share with you. If you order on-line, check out the place on http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/ to see what feedback is on there. Remember, cheap is not always good. You might also check with the garden centers near you to see if anyone has any on clearance. Do a serch for freecycle and see if there is one in your area. Some one on there may have lavender or some other plants they would be willing to share. |

| I have some Hidcote lavendar as a semi-circle in 4 beds surrounding my upper patio-dividing my hosta, short hosta around the patio, and bid hosta closer to the grass. This lavendar is upright for me-the pink/white is not as fragrant as the lavendar colored ones. Because we get alot of winter die back/kill in MI, I always stem layer mine to get more plants. you nick the stems-- scratch the underside with your fingernail-- and bury the attached stem in some good soil. if you do it this fall in your zone you should have a rooted stem to cut & transplant next spring. I just bought 11 Munstead lavendar, darkest purple around for zone 4/5, from Lowes for $1.25 each, a gallon size. they were very floppy, so I'm unsure if they grow that way, but since I was planting them for the backdrop of a 36' bed of merigolds, I stem layered all of them to help fill in the gaps. if you have some fresh buds, remember they are the seeds, and you could plant them and see if they will grow. |
