I came up with a great way to label the seeds that I am saving this year for just the cost of a roll of tape =)
When the seeds I collect are dry, if I know I will have lots of them, I put them in a small glass jar from baby food, jams, small canning jars, etc. I also use film canasters and other small containers. I have always used either sticky lables or just a piece of paper with the pertinent info taped on the container.
I always save all of the little plastic plant tags that come in the flats of flowers I buy (yes, I do BUY some things if I like them! But I get them on sale, I promise!) This year I actually came up with a use for them besides clutter and dust collecters. I snip off the pointy end and tape them to my seed containers. Voila, instant lables complete with color photo!
Thanks for the tip, great idea. When I buy seed I save the package and refill and seal.I use the seed packages as book marks in favorite plant magazines and gardening books until time to recycle.
Save my seeds in little coin envelopes but have traded for some that the folks made them out of left over wrapping paper and brown paper bags, reg paper that was folded to make a little pockets. Also at the craft stores they sell itty bitty plastic bags for around 1.29 for 100 of them.
I save all of the junk mail return envelopes for seeds. I actually use them for anything that needs an envelope but does not need to go in the US mail.
