Partially rotted tree stump, tree branches, new pergola

I have a pergola so new looking either it is an eyesore or everything else is. I have some great looking hollowed out tree stumps and old branches. Is there something I can soak or spray the old wood with to kill bugs or whatever so that I can wire it to the posts on my new pergola? I want the vines etc, to climb the old wood up into the new. Make sense?

I think I follow you, but I don't see why you need to spray the old wood for bugs. If the wood is infested with termites and your pergola is also wood I think I would skip using it altogether, but other than that just use as is. If the new wood is cedar you are fine otherwise you might want to use a wood preservative/sealer on the portion that will contact the ground or old wood.

It seems like somebody at an arts & crafts fair told me that she soaked old bones & old wood in her utility sink (a very deep sink) in a bleach solution for a few days to remove any residual odors & microscopic life.

Best luck!
