Here is a tip... Recycle water from your fish tanks...

Hello Ya'll,
This is my first post on this forum. In addition to being an avid gardner, I also have an interest in tropical fish which leads me to my tip for the day. When I change the water in my fish tanks, I place it in recycled gallon jugs and use it to water my plants. Currently, I live in a condo and use it for my houseplants.

Soon, I will be moving into a house and will start using it for my gardens. Personally, I would not use this water for my edibles, but it is "free" nonetheless. I read about this tip from an aquarium forum that I frequent.

Speaking of fish tanks... You can also use pothos ivy cuttings in your aquarium. Fish will not eat this plant and it is so easy to do... Take your cutting and rinse it well as you do not want any plant chemicals in your fish tank. Just drop in the cutting to float and that is it. Betta's love to curl up on these leaves just under the surface of the water line. After sharing this tip, a friend of mine put a pothos leaf in her snake's aquarium. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me! Thank you for letting me share. Until next time be well and have a great weekend!
Always,
Denise

I have done both these before. I have used my fish tank water for my plants and started pothos cuttings in there. They take a long time to root but I think it is nicer for the fish too to have some real plants in there.

Hello Becky,
Thank you for responding and for sharing. I agree with you and have 2 fully planted fish tanks. My first tank is 29 gallons and the second tank is 10 gallons. Some of the plants in my tank are so easy to grow and prolific that I am tempted to add them to my trade list! *lol* I enjoyed reading your response and I hope that we will chat again. Until next time be well!
Always,
Denise

Thank you Denise! We have a 29 gallon and a 5 gallon and we've tried live plants with no success. I try the pothos vine--my husband would love to see a live plant in the tanks because they provide more oxygen to the fish.

Hello Dawn,
Thank you for sharing and I am sorry to read that you have had problems with planting your aquariums. One of the easiest plants I have had is Anacharis. It truly is prolific. I have java fern and java moss in my fish tanks as well. I do not use any fertilizers on my plants and I have gravel substrates in both of my tanks. I did some searching and found a couple of links that might be helpful for you.

The link attached is a picture of Anacharis. The website itself is for a supplier in your state.

Steve's Aquatic Plant Resource Page is comprehensive and interesting. Here is the link for you to copy and paste:

I hope that you enjoy the links and I hope that the pothos cuttings work out for you. Just try and be patient as they take a long time to root. But even just floating the leaves provides a pretty effect and something interesting for the fish to play with. *smiles* Please keep me posted.
Always,
Denise

I have been using fish tank water on my plants for years and it works wonderfull. Why not use it on your edibles?
