Need idea for container

Posted by DebbieInMiami z10 Miami, Fl (My Page) on

I have a butterfly garden and want to add 2-3 container plants, since everything in the ground is taking up all of the room.

I need an idea to raise the container up so the flowers can be seen amongst the other plants. Those stone pillars are pricey. I know there has to be a very inexpensive alternative, and since whatever the container sits on probably won't be seen much anyway - I need a cheap idea!

THANKS, Debbie

Look for those rectangular ceramic tubes that are in chimmneys.

They can be filled with dirt or just left hollow as columns. They can be found in breaker yards or places where you get old bricks; you can also keep an eye out for them if someone is taking out a chimney. They don't look bad at all, and do not degrade outside.

Tomato cages work well for this. Just stick the cage down where you want to have your flowers and set the pot in the top.

Ceramic drain pipes are useful- provided they are partly sunk in the soil to stop them toppling. Main drawback is they provide a lovely place for the snails and spiders to lurk.

If your garden is 'natural' in style, a driftwood stump or three weathered posts cut to height and bound together with wire or a neutral-coloured rope. (The snails are fond of lurking in this arrangement, too...)

Round twenty gallon drum, painted, top and bottom removed...

Make a trypod out of tree limbs, depinding on the size of the pot as to the size of tree branches you use, just just put the branches together tye with wire or rope then sepreate the bottom to form a trypod.
