need ideas on turning pergola into covered porch

the pergola is attached to the house, and we never really use it because of the bugs, rain, moss and stuff growing on the brick patio underneath. it would not be able to support a full roof (plywood, shingles, skylights and all). There are grapevines which don't bear because of the shade of the dogwoods, but get out of control anyway.

The pergola has 7 rafters about 9 feet long, emerging from the house wall, 45 inches on center. They rest on a cross piece supported by 4x4s, and have two other crosspieces toenailed between each pair of rafters.

I was thinking of lightweight plastic? fiberglass? for the roof, and mosquito net curtains. Can anyone recommend what material I should use for the roof panels? and how to attach them?

I am willing to spend instead of scrounging for the panels, because it sure would be cheaper than hiring a contractor to build us a usable porch.

Hi!

No imagination here. :(

You might want to check this out. They wanted to do the same with fiberglass.
