This fall with all the sales on plants I had great temptation to go out and spend ,didn't feel comfortable buying plants with this economy. So looking around the gardens I could see numerous plants that weren't doing well for lack of space so I put them where the plants I would have bought would have gone which should suit them well and I am more satisfied than with new plants?

Good for you. I did the same. $$$ saved is $$$ earned.

RE: Transplant

So far this fall, I have planted 3 beds (about 600 sq feet total) using this technique. Plus I swapped seed for a flat of 37 perennials. And I will still have left-overs, which I will pawn off on friends and neighbors. I just can't throw away seedlings of plants that I paid money for a few years ago, even though they seed prolifically and spread like the wildflowers that they are.
