Boo Hoo-missed lots of hay bales

I sold my pick-up truck because I needed to buy car, so I can take my mom out to lunch and shopping every other week, because she is in a nursing home and cannot walk now-much less get into the pickup. Well, last week on garbage day, I could have gotten over 12 bales of hay, but could only get one into the car trunk. I was only able to get 4 leaf bags this fall. My mom is expecting even more from me, even though she lives over 3 hours away(the only private room available which takes medicaid). How much do we sacrifice for our demanding parents. We are still working on her house and STUFF, and my yard suffered last summer because of it. I did get a few yard tools from her garage though. I guess I could just have to buy some top soil/compost, if I had time to get a job. Life is frustrating.

Well, Chris, it seems like there's a lot of underlying things in your post above. A lot of things go on in families that others don't see. I "hear" your resentment and duly noted the word "demanding." Some older people are just like they always have been, only more so, pleasant or not. Love and guilt, love and guilt. That's a razor's edge to try to cope with, so try to do your best for her while keeping yourself intact. Some folks get angry at life in general (can't hardly blame them) when they're confined to a care facility. I see in your profile you are a master gardener. Any way you could work a swap of the loan of a truck for some of your skills? Just wanted to try to cheer you up a bit. Good luck.

Hey, I have an idea for you. What I did was get one of those cheap car top racks that consist of two bars with rubber cups on the bottom and little tie-down straps with little metal clips that hook onto the sides of the door jamb. I found mine at a flea market for a couple bucks. They come off easy and store in the trunk. If you have to carry a lot of stuff, you can put some plywood over the rails and load up a bunch of stuff. Just don't put mom up there. Also, if you keep your eyes open, you might find a small trailer. I got a 4X6 foot for $200 bucks. Not good as a pickup, but better than nothing. Hang in there.
