You'll be waiting a long time before that seed bears another avocado (maybe 7 years or longer) and it may not be "true" to the avocado you bought, meaning it may be inferior. Most commercial avocado growers use grafting which puts a superior type of fruiting tree onto a rootstock that has superior qualities as well (resistance to disease, etc). One of my neighbors has a gigantic tree which has never had a fruit. Takes up a lot of space for no return. I think it's fun to grow one from seed if you have kids to show them how trees are made but I wouldn't plant it in the back yard. Naplesgardener |

| Avocado require a long growing season, from flower to fruit. Longer than you have in your location. Convincing an avocado to produce fruit as an indoor container plant is not possible, under typical inside conditions. Growing an attractive tree from a very ripe pit is very easy, though. |

| Plant the seed then use it as rootstock for a proven variety. |
