 o
perm. marked labels from beer/soda cans

Remember those old labelmakers, with the dial to turn for each letter or number? Well, you can use them to mark thin aluminum strips from cans, cut about 3/8" wide.

Strips cut from cans may not be long enough to push through the labelmaker, so you must tape another one at the end.

The labelmaker may not advance the strip sufficiently to allow stamping another letter so the strip has to be pulled out by hand to allow space for the next letter.

Then, a round hole can be made by using a hole punch, doing 2 or 3 at a time.

Acrylic yarn makes a durable tie-on cord.

If a labelmaker is not available, place the aluminum strip on a surface with some give to it, like hard foam rubber or linoleum or a few sheets of newspaper and mark the strip with a ball point pen, pressing hard enough to make a good, permanent mark.
