Does anyone know of any good (frugal) places to obtain ornamental grasses? Haven't tried growing from seed, not sure I've ever seen anyone else do it either.

Thanks!

don't know if it would work with ornamental grasses, but I have an extroverted gardening friend who often asks homeowners if they'd like her to clean up their overcrowded flower beds & divide their perennials, irises, etc.

& she takes the surplus plants home!

At just about time of year, I stop at the different restaurants, malls, etc that may have ornamental grasses I like. I carefully just snip of a few seed heads, and plant them at home. I get about 50-60 percent germination. :-) Since they are prechilled, they seem to have no problem germinating.

Over on the winter sowing site people are talking about starting grasses. I guess they do them earlier due to taking longer for grasses to get going.
