KIKU apple seedling with thorns

Tony

Scott or anyone?

I planted a Kiku apple seed 3 years ago. It is about five feet tall now. The strange thing about this seedling was that the bottom half had a bunch of 3" thorns. I know it is a long shot for this seedling to come true to its parent but I never know until I planted one. I have seen this kind of thorns in Asian pear seedlings in the past but apple was my first time. What do think of the thorns? I plan to collect some scions from it and bark graft to my 9yrs old 15 varieties multi grafted apple tree to see if I can accelerate the fruiting process by a couple of years.
