To me, it looked like canker. I had it on my peach. Mine healed over. You need to keep your tree healthy so it can heal.

During dormancy before or about bud break, I spray copper as a preventative measure. Copper also prevents bacterial spot, scab and Peach Leaf Curl, all common peach diseases.

Thanks, mamuang! This tree had significant shot hole disease damage this year as well. I have already applied copper this late fall and plan on another application in spring to prevent that this year.

If it is canker, is there a risk of this tree spreading the disease to my other healthy peaches?

Hi Rawley,

If other peach trees are healthy, they won't have the issue but most trees have cracks/open wounds, even from pruning. When the condition is right, the canker will spread.
