Transplanting American Persimmon Suckers

palazzophoto

Has any successfully transplanted any american persimmon sucker trees while dormant? These are suckers growing off one big interconnected root system.

I recently pulled up a bunch of these trees on a sand bank where they easily came out of the ground with about 2-3 ft of root on 2-4 ft trees. I cut the tree down to around 1-3ft tall and sealed the top with wax. I have them in large containers with damp sand covering the roots.

The question is will these take off in the spring when planted and will 2-3 ft of roots be enough to support trees this size?

I plan on grafting these after they get established.

Has anyone successfully propagated root cuttings of american persimmon?
