| Does anyone have suggestions for varieties of nuts that can be grown successfully in zone 5? Would love pecans or almonds but appears those are out of reach. |
Follow-Up Postings:

| Pecans are do-able in zone 5 - a bit more info about WHERE in zone 5 you're located would be helpful. Almonds, I don't do or know much about, but black walnuts, Carpathian walnuts, heartnuts, hickories, chestnuts, hazels/filberts are all potentially workable in most z5 settings. |
|
in my zone 5, my young almond trees died when I tried, but something like apricot with edible kernels can be grown. |
|
| We have frequent late spring frosts so peaches and apricots produce a reliable crop only every 3 years. Probably not the way to go. Filberts are an idea that sounds good, will research that. Thanks! |

| Chestnuts and hazelnuts work very well here in zone 5, upstate NY. I have grown out hundreds of chestnut seedlings from trees that have been producing for the last 30 years here. I could send you some if you are interested. |
