I have some 3 year old Evan cherry plugs that are about 2 feet tall. I have not done any pruning yet. One of them seems to have 2 leaders with 1-3 years of growth, and is almost the same height as the main leader. I of course have to prune this to encourage proper growth in the future and am wondering how well Evans grows from cuttings. The U of Sask seems to suggest they can be grown "relatively easily from cuttings". All I know right now is that I should try to strike them while dormant, but dont know how old the wood needs to be for my best chances. It is maybe a foot tall, and was thinking of just planting the while thing half way. I would just much rather try to propagate some of my prunings instead of just tossing them in the compost or fire.

if on their own roots, root cuttings is the best way then.

I think the easiest to try is in spring before budding out by layering. Cuttings don't seem to sprout easily with dormant wood. As far as I know, cuttings are done in late summer with new shoots and grown in a warm bed covered with a mister,..have seen it.

Ive seen layering brought up before and am interested. I did a google search and couldn't find much. Does this work with most bushes and trees? All there is to itis putting a branch under ground and letting the end come out then it will grow roots on the pkrtion under ground? After a year or so you can cut the new plant off? I would be interested in trying this with blueberry and cherry bushes, i must be missing something this sounds too easy...

No, you're not missing anything. Bend down to a U ..on the bottom of the U / I usually brake it a little, [usually it brakes a little anyway] dirt on top and a rock. I've never done it with Evans cherry because U get tons of suckers later.
