Are non-astringest hybrid persimmons possible?

First off, sorry if anyone is annoyed with another persimmon thread. I've been armchair gardening and persimmons are intriguing me this winter.

I was wondering if anyone has any insight into the possibility of developing a non-astringent hybrid. According to this article http://www.globalsciencebooks.info/JournalsSup/images/0712/JJPS_1(2)42-62o.pdf it sounds like the mechanism for controlling astringency (at least in Japanese varieties) is recessive, so it seems pretty unlikely to get that trait into a hybrid.

Looking at some older posts there were supposed to be some new hybrids coming out of Yalta any year now, but who knows with the problems in Ukraine.

It's a shame it is so hard (it is, right?) to hybridize persimmons, puts it out of reach of hobbyists.
