Could whiskey barrel poison trees?

Hello everyone, I was planning on putting a fruit tree (fig or maybe dwarf apple or pear) in a half oak barrel, but I was wondering since the barrel was charred and used to make whiskey or bourbon could that effect the health of the plant. From what I understand about aging whiskey/bourbon the alcohol seeps into the oak, could the charring and alcohol have an adverse effect on certain fruit trees?
Thanks, Matt

I doubt it. Alcohol is an antiseptic. If anything, it will prevent evil coming into your rooting environment.

I spray all my grapevines regularly with alcohol and water. It doesn't hurt the plants, but the bugs hate it!

Same thing for charring. Purifier!

That's why half oak barrels are used often as planters. They work!

Matt,

I don't think it is an issue at all, go for it.

Thanks Suzi and Rabbit, I thought it would be ok but I figured why not ask just to be sure

Anything that had food or drink in it is probably safe
