Hello everyone. I'm new to garden web. Just bought some acreage in North Central MS (7b) and wanted to get some ideas on apple varieties for my area. Will probably be planting 1/2 to 3/4 acre. Well drained silt loam soil. Thanks, Mark.

Home orchard, I'm presuming? No spray, low-spray, high maintenance? So many factors to consider in selecting, even before you get into taste/color preferences. Others will have many recommendations; I'll make two: MonArk - from U.of AR program, good disease resistance; best early season apple (ripens early to mid July here) here. Big, flat/round red-over-green apple with firm crisp white flesh, keeps 6-8 weeks without going mealy. Requires multiple picking or stop-drop application. Centennial crab - sweet, pretty, tasty little 2" apples. Hard to beat for flavor. Consider planting some pears, too

Thanks lucky p. I am going to plant pears and I think some plums. I will also have blueberries and muscadines. Do you have any recommendations on the pears and plums. I would like to have low maintenance if possible but I do have a spray rig for an ATV so I will have some assets for spraying.
