Jewel is pretty tart for cool season ripening. The cooler the weather the more tart the fruit. I had some great fruit off Santa Fe last winter but it's a very low acid variety.

Mine are early to mid bloom now as well. I'm not pulling off any of that fruit. I'll be at 80F+ in two months. Not much will ripen until after that.

I missed your post, or I wouldn't have asked the exact same question! Check "Blueberries blooming too early!" I got a couple of good answers so far--I guess I'll let them bloom. I have Southmoon, O'Neal, and Misty, and they've all been blooming a little since last spring, but my O'Neals are all flower right now. That's what we get for having such warm winters in California...

My blueberries are blooming or about to bloom too. I think the cold snap late December and the warm weather in the past few weeks wake them up. The Sweetcrisp I got from FloridaHill nursery last year is also blooming. I will keep some fruits to see the outcome, by comparing it with my other Sweetcrisp. I also bough a Spring High from them, but the plant didn't make it.

My newly planted Blenheim apricot from Home Depot is also wakening up. I saw some swelling buds. Probably it will bloom in a few days.
