 o
Schisandra Chinensis-Magnolia Vine

I recently saw this plant in a catalog and did a little followup reading about it.If half the benefits are true, then this is very health inducing. There is quite a list, but there doesn't seem to be too much Western study information about it that I could find yet.
The Chinese and some people in Russia have been using it for centuries. They call it Wu Wei Zi or Five Flavor Berry because it has salt, sweet, sour, spicy and bitter flavors.
There are male and female plants, both are needed for fruit, except there is a variety,Eastern Prince that has perfect flowers and is self fertile. This vine is hardy in Zone 4 and can grow in somewhat shady places in hot areas.
Does anyone grow this?It looks interesting. Brady

I have an Eastern Prince, but it was just planted last year. So I have no info, I'm growing it on a fence. So far so good. Slow to start, but once it started it grew steady.
Oh I made tea from the leaves mixed with mint and it was pretty good! I used a dehydrator to dry leaves.

Mine is also a young plant so no berries yet. I got mine from One Green World.

I tried for several years to sprout seeds and was unsuccessful. I got my first seeds from a non-reputable seed company so I thought that might have been the problem. Maybe I babied them to death. I stratified them according to directions but nothing worked. I should have probably winter-sowed them.
