Planting Apricot Trees

I ordered three bareroot apricot trees that should be arriving this week; a Chinese, a Harcot, and a Tomcot. I'd like to try the "backyard orchard culture" method from Dave Wilson Nursery, which suggests cutting them off at about knee height or so, though they'll be planted 4 to 5 feet apart for air flow reasons rather than in the same hole. I'll probably be planting them this weekend, and right now the weather forecast is showing highs in the 40's and lows in the 30's/20's. From what I found while searching the forums this shouldn't be too cold to plant them, but does any one know if this is too cold to top them? Thanks!

Those temperatures won't hurt anything and are perfect for this time of year. You could top now but waiting another 4-6 weeks won't hurt anything. Just do it before real growth starts.

I'd go for it. Even up here in the far north, there is very little frost in the ground (there isn't any in sunny spots)...

Thanks Fruitnut and Frank, sounds like I'm good to go! On a semi-related note, I ordered a bareroot Eversweet Pomegranate as well; will that be okay to plant at the same time? I know they like warmer temperatures in general (if it fruits, great, otherwise I'll enjoy the flowers), so I don't want to kill it if it's too cold. I could put it in the ground now since like Frank said, it's hasn't really frozen around here (though the Californian in me says it's still so cold!), or I could put it in a pot inside and transplant it in the spring when it warms up. Thoughts? Thanks!
