Medlar in southeastern US?

Can medlars be easily grown in the southeast, like here around Atlanta, GA? Or do they get fireblight or some other disease?

They get fireblight and quince rust very badly. At least they did for me. Also the codling moth was rampant; the blossom area is their favorite entry point on apples and on medlars there is this huge blossom end so I think they are more tempting for the moths than apples.

Thanks. I figured someone would say something like that. I'll stick with easier fruits.
