limb spacing from ground

I have a small orchard on 1 acre I have some trees with abought 3 feet to first limb but some trees with 1 foot.Squirrels no problem.I would just like to know what the real way is supposed to be .I just planted another dozen trees and would like to fix them the right way whatever it is.I apreshate all responses.And all help is welcome.

I probably don't have enough experience for my advice to count for much at all -- I'll be interested to hear what others have to say -- but so long as animals/wildlife isn't a concern I generally think of about 2' as a good height for the first scaffold branch.
