Where can I get a Quince tree
| | |
Posted by campbellms 7, Northern MS (My Page) on Tue, Feb 9, 10 at 11:10
| Am specifically looking for a fruiting quince tree (Cydonia Oblonga), not a Flowering Quince.
Any recommendation that are within a couple of hours of Corinth , MS....if not, any recommendations of reputable online nurseries? |

| Thanks for everyone's response....Looks like I'll need to order versus a trip to a nursery. Ref varieties, the Aromatnaya seems have more in the fragrance department from your feedback and other writeups I've seen,,,,1) is it really sweet enough to eat unprepared? 2) Is it really much different than other varieties in fragrance? |

| I would not eat them fresh off the tree. It's better used as preserves, sauces and candies. I only have one tree and most of the harvest is sold to a local restaurant. He makes a sauce for his fish dishes. Eric |

| I've only had a few to play with yet. I can already tell that I will enjoy them as a jelly, maybe a syrup, and as an addition to applesauce (and if I could bake worth a hoot, to apple pies). There is a great old saying I happened across years ago, coming from the Near East, closer to the origins of quince. It was said that you could smell a single quince in the cargo of a camel carevan!! Now THAT'S some strong smell to get through! |

| If they kept quince in their tents, that's likely why the camel always wants in. Eric--I donate a small batch of quince yearly to a local restaurant; he uses them in a variety of pastries. I do get some free pastries out of it. |

| I also make a pretty mean quince x asian pear cider. Eric Oooh Donuts! |

| Well the cider definitely is the clincher here.....What got me looking into this fruit originally was a liqueur called "Crema de Membrillo" that I found in Guadalajara.....The stuff was outstanding! The fragrance and flowers are a bonus as well |
