 o
Pear variety selection

My wife wants a pear tree. She says she likes Bartlett. Truth is we have not tried a wide variety of pears, except for Asian pears which neither of us like that well. She likes to eat them fresh and dry them.

Any suggestions on other varieties to try, or is this old standby still one of the best?

Bartlett's a good choice- healthy, good fresh, canned or dried, popular. From personal experience I also like Gold Spice, Warden Seckel, and Flemish Beauty. By reputation I would add White Doyenne and Dana's Hovey. I lean towards "dessert" pears and your tastes may vary. Finding out is a fun trip though.

I would try conference and see how you like it. it's another old standby and tastes good for me in my hot humid climate. It also is one of my least fireblight prone pears.
