Fabraea Leaf Spot on Pear

Posted by matt_ohio 5b/6a (My Page) on

I believe I have Fabraea Leaf Spot on my pears(anjou, honeysweet, ubileen, but not on moonglow). I get purple spots in mid summer and they defoliate some in late summer. Some older spurs and branches just die. And only get blossoms at the end of 1 year old growth.

I am in central Ohio.

I have seen OSUs suggestion for fungicide of mancozeb & ziram. Where can I purchase, as a home orchardist, something that will work on this disease.

Thanks.

I don't really want to use mancozeb because of the 77 day preharvest no spray period.

Other sprays? Topsin-M, Rubigan EC, Procure 50, Sovran 50, Flint 50, Pristine? What would would be the cheapest one that would work?

According to Cornell and in my experience, pear psyla is often the spreader of FLS, so you should be sure this isn't your first issue- they are sneaky little devils (use a magnifying glass). Cheapest way to suppress PP is numerous sprays with summer oil when weather permits.

If PP isn't the root of your problem and you don't want to spring for a life time supply of Flint or Sovran, I suggest you reconsider mancozeb. You should get control before the 77 day restriction sets in.

Bonide Mancozeb with Zinc will work then for FLS? The label doesn't show it labeled for fruit, if so what rate?

I also see DITHANE M-45 Mancozeb Fungicide on Ebay with a spray recom. of 6.75-9.0 kilograms per hectare. Does anyone know oz. per gallon?

Thanks.

I will look at the Cornell site, and rates of application.
