Has anyone tried grafting a sweet cherry onto a hanseon cherry bush? I have a stella cherry tree and two hanson cherry bushes and am considering giving it a try.

Don't know. But I find grafting cherries onto cherries difficult. Low take rate.

Someone else was wondering this a few months back I think... or maybe it was regarding chokecherry. Anyway, I did read somewhere that Prunus besseyi (Hansen's Bush Cherry, aka Western Sand Cherry) as a rootstock makes a short-lived plant. In any event, I have trouble imagining the sizes matching up, sand cherry is such a small plant with super thin growth, while sweet cherries always have big thick twigs, right?

I budded several sweet cherries this past summer...i won't know what took for a few months yet. I find growing sweet cherry from seed almost impossible.

Frank - Was this a graft or did you root cuttings? If a graft, what were the two varieties.
