Chill hours - significant swing/variance

Hi All,

I've been researching chill hours in my area, and have discovered a bit of a disconnect. My current YTD chill hours number is 368. Last year at this time it was 227. The historical average for this date is 894! Wow! What a difference...

I wonder what is causing that? For example, how far does the historical go back and could there be a long term pattern shift? Will one or two periods of cold over a few days to a week make that much difference?

It's so hard to know what can/will do well here with such a wide variance! BTW, I'm located in South Georgia, about 10 miles from the Florida line.
