I suppose this has been asked here before. I'd like your opinion on the varieties of watermelon that taste the best. Sweet and crisp would be the preference. I value your input. Thanks!

Perry: My favorite seeded variety is Star Brite. It is nearly as good as the Triplod seedless and much better than the ~20 other seeded cultivars I've tried. It has large seeds and holds it's quality a long time.

Best seedless I ever grew was Tri-X-313. But the rights to that variety were sold to a large CA grower. I've tried many seedless and most were very good. But they need a pollinator variety and are hard to establish. Since you are already having establisment problems, that is a consideration.

I like charleston gray a lot. We grew up on it and it is still my favorite. In one of my new catalogues, I saw a smaller, round version of the charleston gray that is supposed to fit in the refrigerator better. I think its called charleston, Jr.
